Chris Marcum posted Jason Bickle's Files

Hello everyone, Jason Bickle had to recreate some of his files for his sessions and asked me to post them here. Here is the file for the Instructional Design Workshop, his Mobile Learning Session, the eLearning Tools/New To eLearning PreConference and a template for his mobile session.

Irene Knokh, M.A., M.Ed: Thank Jason and Chris! Irene
Marta: Thank you for the information. Jason was an awesome instructor and I hope to see him again in future sessions.

To attendees - here's the final step which we didn't get to during the class. It was the last direction on the white board. This will allow Presenter to publish your file with the slide master image showing through behind the transparent Engage interaction. Go to: Articulate Tab - Presentation Options - then check the box "Include slide master behind quizzes and interactions" Hope this helps everyone finish off this project!

Joe Wetterling: That did the trick! I had to redo the transparent color scheme, also. What I didn't realize is that the color wouldn't just turn transparent, it would *be* transparent in the Articulate work screen. Once I saw it turn transparent, I went back to Powe... [read more]
chris boucher: Works for me, thank you, I really like this technique and plan to use it soon. Thanks again for your session, they were the most "hands on" of any I attended!
Laura Fried: Joe, Chris, good to hear it worked for you! It's pretty powerful once it does... Remember you can upload your performance support items to Articulate Online as Attachments (if you use that service) or to your company's web server, and embed those spe... [read more]

Chris Marcum posted Thank You!

I wanted to send a quick "thank you" to everyone for being a part of BYOL eLearning 2010. I love this conference because it allows me to get to know everyone better than a large conference would. We hope you enjoyed yourselves and also hope to see you at one of our conferences in the future!

Chris Marcum posted Presenter Feedback

Hey everyone! Our presenters are our pride and joy, and we want to make sure we have the best available. After your sessions, we'd love it if you would take the time to fill out our presenter feedback survey for each session you attend (even if you've already rated the presenter). It will only take a minute and you can find the link here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8VWMTPK Thanks everyone!

Irene Knokh, M.A., M.Ed: Great! Thanks Chris! Irene
Chris Marcum: Don't forget the feedback surveys! If you didn't like a session or really enjoyed it, tell us why so we can improve.
Chris Marcum: Friendly Reminder to fill out the presenter feedback survey!

Anyone currently using Learn.com or Cornerstone On Demand LMS solutions? If so, I'd love to chat about your experience with them. Catch me between sessions or at the Keynote tonight. Thanks!

Stephanie Abel: We use Learn right now and I love it!! Let me know when and if you would like to chat :)
Christal Brown: We also use Learn and love it. We started with SumTotal and it was a total nightmare. Learn has been very helpful, has a detailed implementation strategy, good support, great user sharing strategy.
alex hass: We are using Cornerstone, it has its flaws but I like it

If anyone is interested in discussing social media at the conference, perhaps getting together for a dinner, let me know. We can all grab a bite to eat, chat about SM & E-Learning, which thus creates social learning and go beyond the standard FB, Twitter like apps, ppl r using.

Nichole Thusius: Meeting in the lobby of the University Hall or the Lobby of the Fairfield- what time with the reservation be for?
Debbie Richards: We are meeting in the hotel lobby at 6!
Tianna Tagami: I'm not at your hotel. What restaurant are you going to?

Amy Sorflaten posted Captivate Certification

I'd love to pick anyone's brain that has taken this certification from Adobe, how valuable it was, how difficult it was, and what your ROI has been on it. I question with how often the version is upgrading how to know when and if the right time is to do this. Contact me via the site, or on twitter. Thanks!

Chris Marcum posted Shuttle Changes- VERY IMPORTANT!

Hey Everyone, We've made some changes to the shuttle. Because our numbers were growing a little more, in order to accommodate they've had to switch us to a bus, from the vans. This is good for you, in the sense that it will be a more comfortable ride. That being said, we have to be more strict on the schedule now. The schedule is the same as before (which I will paste again for your reference) but we will not be able to send any runs back for any... [read more]

Nichole Thusius posted Parking @ the U?

I read on the site that parking passes would be available but then I read somewhere else on the community site that parking would be $25. http://elearning.byol.com/transport_lodging.php Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Also noticed when I clicked on the 'Click here to see taxi services in the Montclair area' link it took me to hotels in the 07043 area code...one of the BYOL web-Gods might want to get that fixed seeing as I'm sure m... Christina Tudor: What if I only need a parking pass for the pre-conference? I am carpooling the Wed-Fri.
Brandon Lancaster: Do we need to purchase the parking passes online in advance, or will they be available at the registration desk when we arrive? If when we arrive, how should we handle parking on the first day?
Cyndi Nagel: I need a parking pass too. Can I buy one at Registration tomorrow?

Hello participants! Thank you for signing up for my session on aligning instruction using Bloom's Revised Taxonomy. To prepare for our session, please think about lesson plans or training programs that have not gone quite as you planned. Did learners complain that the assessment was too hard? That what they learned wasn't relevant to their job? Did too many fail the assessment? Did supervisors complain that there wasn't transfer to the job? This ... [read more]

chris boucher posted convenient hotels?

anyone aware of a hotel that has a shuttle to the conference or is within walking distance?

Chris Marcum: Hey everyone, just a reminder- We have a shuttle running from the Fairfield Inn for the duration of the conference (10th-12th). It's only $100, so if that's an option you'd like to examine, let me know and we'll get you set up. We will need to know i... [read more]
Christina Tudor: Any word from Chris if I can use your parking pass on Tuesday?
Steve: Hi Christina - sorry I thought I had replied. Unfortunately the parking pass is tied to the person and Chris said that I can't have you pick it up. Doesn't make a whole load of sense to me. Unfortunately I don't arrive until midday Tuesday.

Craig Weiss posted HTML5 & Tablets

I will be showing a course built entirely in HTML5 courtesy of the folks from eJ4 a custom course shop out of KC. The course will be seen on an iPad tablet via a HTML5 player, which is used in a LMS, that is optimized for tablets, including the iPad. Rarely do vendors have a HTML5 player in their system, although they may pitch that there system is optimized to be seen on an iPad or tablet. Rather, what they are saying is they are browser agnosti... [read more]

Hi conference attendees. I just finished a training in Articulate, and thought I'd add a bonus technique if you sign up for my session: Getting Your Learners to See the WIIFM in Social Media. I'll show you how to include a mobile device template when you're building out your training on social media platforms. This will help "make it real" as so much usage of the social media tools occurs on mobile devices. Check out this blog post to preview thi... [read more]

Rick Eckhardt posted Which airport is best to fly into.

Folks, I am coming out from Wyoming. It looks like there are two choices for nearby airports to fly into, Newark Liberty Int'l or Laguardia. They seem similar distances, but would have to cross Manhattan to use Laguardia yet a round trip flight through there is cheaper. I have no idea what to expect for security screening lines or cost of transportation to the La Quinta. Any suggestions?

Steve: Hi Rick, Here is what I found for cheap shuttle service from EWR. To the Fairfield: http://ezride.org/shuttle.schedules/sched_newark_airport.html The company operates other shuttles and might get you to La Quinta as well: http://ezride.org/shuttle.sc... [read more]
Rick Eckhardt: Thanks Steve, I've sent an e-mail request to them. I'll share the results when I get a reply. I also called La Quinta to see if they are aware of shuttle services that would stop there. They said no but they are happy to schedule a cab to pick you up... [read more]

Hello everyone, I wanted to let ya'll know that we have added shuttle service from the Fairfield Inn. The shuttle will not be available during PreConference. If you will be staying at the Fairfield Inn and would like to add a shuttle pass to your registration, you can do so... [read more]

Chris Marcum posted Shuttle Service?

Hello everyone. From what I've been reading, there is some concern with the cost of transportation to/from the hotels. I've contacted some shuttle services in the area for pricing options but first I would appreciate feedback from everyone. Of course in order to be able to schedule the shuttle we would need to reach a certain threshold of participation. The shuttle pass would include a ride from one of our two Marriott hotels to the Conference fa... [read more]
